Workshops
Introduction
to Bushcraft: Learn basic skills such as knot tying,
tarp set up, and firelighting in wet weather. Knives, tools, and
ultralight backpacking gear will be discussed. This workshop is
geared toward anyone looking to lighten their packs and gain more
confidence in the wilderness.
Edged
tools: This workshop is a must for those who want
to get the most out of future workshops. Learn proper knife techniques
which will increase safety and functionality of this most important
tool. Hands on learning with lots of carving. Knife sharpening,
saw, and ax techniques are also covered.
Wild
foods: This workshop
varies by the season and location. Topics include woodburing backpacking
stoves, baking, traditional cooking methods, edible plants, angling
techniques, etc.
Fire:
Being able to light a fire can mean the difference between life
and death. This workshop covers vital topics such as fuel types,
finding and preparing tinder, friction fire lighting, using a fire
steel, etc.
Cordage
and withes: Learn traditional techniques of making
cordage out of easily found natural materials.
Traps
and snares: Make figure-four deadfalls and snares,
both of which can be modified for nonlethal use and fishing purposes
when not in a survival situation. Making these ingenious contraptions
will give you a new respect for our ancestors and spark your own
creativity.
